Carolina Panthers fans can't help but get excited about the team's newest weapon on offense in rookie Terrace Marshall Jr.
The 2021 second-round pick burned the Indianapolis Colts' defense for a massive gain on his first NFL reception during Carolina's preseason game on Sunday afternoon.
Marshall made sure to keep his feet moving and eventually created some space as quarterback P.J. Walker scrambled back in the pocket. He hauled in the pass and sprinted down the sideline for a 60-yard gain. The 21-year-old showed off some speed before being caught just before the 10-yard line.
This isn't a play that every rookie wide receiver makes. The former LSU standout has a shot to make an immediate impact on this offense after putting together a reliable college career. Marshall racked up 1,594 yards and 23 touchdowns on 106 receptions across a total of 28 games played.
The Panthers acquired Sam Darnold to be the team's starting QB this season and he could look towards the rookie early on given his size. Marshall stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 205 pounds. He has the route-running skills and big play abilities to take on any opposing defender.
Keep an eye on what Marshall is able to do throughout the rest of the preseason. For now, he has odds set at +6000 to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Meanwhile, the Panthers have odds set at +270 to make the playoffs in 2021.
