VIDEO: Justin Fields Already Embracing the Bears-Packers Rivalry
There's a lot of pressure for young quarterbacks taken in the first round of the NFL Draft. First-round quarterbacks are often labeled as potential franchise-changers at the league's most important position. Everything from learning the playbook, refining your game, displaying or learning leadership and more goes into this new chapter for these young signal-callers.
Additionally, potential franchise quarterbacks sometimes must also win over the fanbase. The Chicago Bears fanbase may still be hurting from the failed Mitch Trubisky experiment, but there's a new face in town in Justin Fields, the No. 11 overall draft pick.
It's still a question of when Fields will take over the full-time reins under center, especially with veteran Andy Dalton on roster. But, at least the young Ohio State signal caller is going to win over the Bears faithful, especially with his understanding and embracing of the fierce Bears-Green Bay Packers rivalry.
Justin Fields Bears
Bears QB coach John DeFilippo is seen working out Fields in this video from OTAs. He asks the quarterback about his center from college and where he ended up in the draft. Fields' response is simply perfect. "To the wrong team," Fields says, clearing alluding to the Packers.
These types of moments are crucial in helping a young franchise quarterback win over the fans. With that in mind, Fields is off to a great start. Chicago enters the 2021 campaign with +300 odds to win the NFC North, according to the latest NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. Time will tell when Fields wins over the full-time QB role, but the Bears' fanbase should be thrilled when it happens.
