The St. Louis Cardinals are playing matinee baseball on Wednesday afternoon against the New York Mets. After a game that saw tempers flare on Tuesday night, the Cardinals currently lead New York 9-4 in the seventh inning.
There's already been a number of highlights in this afternoon affair, although none greater than an insane play Dylan Carlson pulled off in the sixth inning.
Mets infielder Luis Guillorme crushed a fly ball over the head of Carlson in center field and attempted to turn this hit into a triple. Carlson quickly hustled over to the ball and unleashed an early candidate for throw of the year.

Carlson's insane throw started about three feet in front of the warning track, on an absolute dime to Edmundo Sosa at third base. Enter a beautiful tag from Sosa and the Cardinals nabbed Guillorme from a two-out triple.
MLB advanced stats clocked Carlson's throw at 97.2 mph. Simply incredible.
