It's looking like it might be a trial by fire for San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. With Emmanuel Sanders out of town and Deebo Samuel nursing a broken foot, there's a real chance that Aiyuk will be counted on as the team's No. 1 wideout in Week 1.
The Arizona State product looks like he's up to the task, putting in some hard work this offseason. His big-time playmaking ability was shown off in a recent practice video, when he made an incredible one-handed catch.
When the 49ers made Aiyuk a first-round pick at No. 25 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, it was clear that he was a weapon that Kyle Shanahan wanted to get involved in the offense.
Aiyuk racked up 1,192 yards on 65 receptions (an impressive 18.3 yards per catch) in his final NCAA season, and he backed that production up by showing off great athleticism with a 40-inch vertical jump and 128.0-inch broad jump at the combine.
Not many rookies get the kind of opportunity that Aiyuk is in line for in 2020. He could be stepping in as the No. 1 WR in an offense that finished second in the NFL in scoring in 2019, and that would put him in a great spot to get his pro career off to a fast start.
