After Drew Lock's struggles during the 2020 NFL season, it's no wonder the Denver Broncos are considering his long-term viability as the team's starter. Denver has even been linked to a possible trade for disgruntled star Deshaun Watson.
Head coach Vic Fangio recently gave Lock a daunting mark to hit if he's to feel safe about his job going forward.
Fangio's message is clear: Lock needs to get better, and until he does, the team will continue to weigh its options at QB. That includes bringing in veterans or draft picks to directly compete with the young quarterback to see who proves themself worthy.
Rather than coddle Lock following his down season, Fangio is clearly taking a tough-love approach. Sometimes that can be the motivation a player needs to improve themselves, and sometimes it reveals some harsh truths better learned sooner than later.
The Broncos' clear desire to get better at quarterback showcases how serious the team is about building a contender. With the No. 9 overall pick in this year's draft and big contract decisions to make, this roster could be revamped come training camp.
