Quarterbacks were the talk of the 2021 NFL Draft given a deep class at the position. Five QBs went in the first round alone, though several talented prospects were taken after that and picked up as undrafted free agents.

The San Francisco 49ers addressed the future of their quarterback position when they took North Dakota State's Trey Lance third overall in the draft. However, Jimmy Garropolo is expected to be the team's top QB heading into the 2021 season as he mentors Lance.

Here's a look at the 49ers' updated QB depth chart for 2021.

49ers QB Depth Chart 2021

1. Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo has spent the last four seasons with the 49ers, including when he helped lead them to the Super Bowl during the 2019 season. Unfortunately, injuries have marred his tenure as he's missed 23 games over the last three years. Still, Garoppolo's proven to be a capable starting QB when healthy and the 49ers will likely use the last two years of his deal to have him mentor Lance.

2. Trey Lance

Trey Lance was drafted a week ago and he's already second on the 49ers' quarterback depth chart. It's hard to be surprised about it, though. Lance showed that he could do it all with North Dakota State. During his sophomore year, Lance threw for 2,786 yards and 28 touchdowns without throwing an interception. He also added exactly 1,100 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns to boot. If Garoppolo can't stay healthy this season, we might see Lance on the field sooner than later.

3. Josh Rosen

It was only a few years ago when Josh Rosen was a top-10 pick for the Arizona Cardinals at the 2018 NFL Draft. Now, after signing a one-year contract with the 49ers in February, Rosen is with his fourth NFL team. He is a restricted free agent at the end of the season, which gives the 49ers future depth options.

4. Nate Sudfeld

Nate Sudfeld was selected by the Washington Football Team in the sixth round of the 2016 draft. He spent the last few seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before signing a one-year deal with the 49ers last month. Despite being drafted five years ago, Sudfeld has yet to start in an NFL game. Barring any injuries, that's likely to be the case this year too.

5. Josh Johnson

Fewer quarterbacks have been a part of as many teams as Josh Johnson. Drafted in 2008, Johnson has signed with 13 different NFL organization, with this being his third stint with the 49ers. Considering his history, don't expect him to be anything more than another warm body on the roster.
