The Carolina Panthers parted with Matt Rhule early on this season, leaving interim head coach Steve Wilks to coach the final 12 games of the season, providing him a fair shot to prove he deserved the full-time position.
Wilks proceeded to go 6-6 to end the season with a Panthers team loaded with questions and lacking top-end talent, a vast improvement over Rhule.
Steve Wilks Panthers Future
Now that the season is over, Wilks will get his shot on Tuesday to interview officially for the head coaching position moving forward. Wilkes of course won't be the only candidate the Panthers interview, with rumors of Jim Harbaugh swirling and former Colts head coach Frank Reich.
Wilks' performance down the stretch has caught a lot of people's eyes though, and considering the roster and situation he was handed, he did an incredibly impressive job.
Wilkes got a shot to be a head coach in 2018 with the Arizona Cardinals, but after a 3-13 finish, he was fired one season in.
Wilks surely wants and probably deserves another head coaching shot. Whether it comes in Carolina, or somewhere else, it would be difficult to imagine him not getting a chance soon.
