Todd Gurley returned to the state of Georgia and signed with the Atlanta Falcons last season. While he did score nine touchdowns, it was an overall unimpressive season, averaging just 3.5 yards per carry, while failing to top 20 rushing yards in any final five games.

While Gurley left a lot to be desired, there could still be some teams interested in signing the veteran running back. Here are the three most likely free agent destinations for Gurley.

1. Atlanta Falcons

Returning to the Falcons would be the most likely scenario. There is no other team where he would be more popular than in the state he went to college. Also, Atlanta did not give Gurley double-digit carries since Week 11. With nothing to play for, it's interesting that they would seemingly manage the workload of a running back on an expiring contract. The big motivating factor for this is could be that they have interest in bringing him back.

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa will likely be a popular destination for any player willing to take a discount to ring chase. The Leonard Fournette experiment has not been great in Tampa. With Fournette unlikely to return to the team, they need a running back that is capable of catching passes, which Gurley has done 243 times across six NFL seasons.

3. San Francisco 49ers

Kyle Shanahan got to see first-hand what Gurley is capable of doing, when they were both in the NFC West together. The 49ers takes pride in their running back committee, but Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson are all free agents this offseason. Playing in a committee could help reduce the load placed on Gurley's shoulders (and knees), and he could be a great piece to complement Raheem Mostert.
