The first night of the 2022 NFL Draft was filled with surprises, including a shocking deal that saw the Tennessee Titans send standout wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles for the No. 18 and No. 101 picks.
It was a stunning move considering how Brown was easily the Titans' top wide receiver on top of only being 24 years old. Although they ended up finding his replacement with the 18th overall selection, the damage to the team's Super Bowl LVII odds has already been done.
Titans Super Bowl Odds
Before last night, FanDuel Sportsbook listed the Titans at +2700 odds to win the Super Bowl next season. Those odds have since dropped to +3000 (No. 15) following the trade.
It might be the "Derrick Henry Show" on offense, but the Titans wouldn't have won back-to-back AFC South titles without Brown's help. Since 2019, Brown led all Titans players with 185 receptions, 2,995 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns.
The Titans drafted Arkansas' Treylon Burks to be their new No. 1 WR and while he's a talented wideout that can do it all, it's a bit ironic that analysts listed Brown as one of his best NFL comparables.
The Titans have three picks to make on Day 2 of the NFL Draft (No. 35, 69 and 90), leaving many wondering if they'll add even more wideout depth to offset the loss of Brown.
At the end of the day, the Titans have a very talented prospect in Burks and playing in a run-dominant offense should take some pressure off his shoulders. Still, it might be a while before we'll know if Tennessee is the winner or loser of this trade.
