3 Texans That Won't Be on the Roster at the Start of the 2022 Season

The 2021 season was another forgettable effort in the eyes of Houston Texans fans. The team finished with a putrid 4-13 record and head coach David Culley was fired. Hopes for improvement this upcoming fall now land on the shoulders of new HC Lovie Smith and young quarterback Davis Mills.
Houston is tasked with trimming off some roster fat before Week 1 arrives. Keeping the players around that could aide in the rebuilding process has to be a priority at this point. With that in mind, here's a look at three Texans players that won't be on the roster at the start of the 2022 NFL season.
Texans Roster Rumors
1. Anthony Auclair, TE
Anthony Auclair is the likeliest candidate to be the odd man out at the tight end position this season. The Texans used a fifth-round pick to select Teagan Quitoriano out of Oregon State in the 2022 NFL Draft. Not only that, but both Pharoah Brown and Brevin Jordan hauled in at least 20 receptions for 170 yards in 2021. Those marks soar in comparison to the 47 yards Auclair posted on 5 receptions. The 29-year-old's time spent in Houston could be cut short after just one year.
2. Jeff Driskel, QB
The Texans have remained adamant that this season will be all about developing Mills as a starting QB. He has the starting gig locked down, which leaves Jeff Driskel to battle Kyle Allen and Kevin Hogan for a roster spot. Driskel was only active for Houston in one game last season and did not attempt a single pass. It doesn't help that Allen's career record (7-10) fares much better than Driskel's (1-8) as well. As for Hogan, he has experience playing with offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton during his time spent at Stanford. All signs point to Driskel not being on this team in 2022.
3. Isaac Yiadom, CB
The Texans signed Isaac Yiadom in free agency this past March in order to shore up some cornerback depth. Since then, they have signed veteran Steven Nelson in free agency and claimed Kendall Sheffield off waivers. That means Yiadom is going to be fighting to stay on the roster against guys like Tremon Smith and Tavierre Thomas. That's not a good sign considering Smith appeared in 77% of the Texans' special teams snaps last season and Thomas totaled 86 tackles. Keep in mind Yiadom also gave up a whopping 18.3 yards per completion in 2021.
