Indianapolis Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton could test the upcoming free agent market. But the Colts star receiver since 2012 is also a candidate to resign with the team. Indianapolis is flush with money to resign or add players, and the Colts rank among the top 5 teams into 2021 in salary cap space according to Over The Cap.
Hilton's decision may hinge on whether the Colts resign unrestricted free agent QB Philip Rivers, who signed with the Colts as a free agent last year.
Here are three teams that should sign T.Y. Hilton.
1. Indianapolis Colts
Hilton can still play at age 31, and returning to the Colts would be a popular choice for one of the Colts' all-time leading receivers. Hilton led the Colts in receiving with 56 catches for 762 yards in 2020, but his production has fallen off the last two years as he's played through injuries. Decision time for Indianapolis and whether they will sign him for another year or two.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are in rebuild mode and just hired Urban Meyer as the teams head coach. The Jaguars could make a pitch for Hilton to join their young receiving core and upcoming quarterback in the 2021 draft, Trevor Lawrence. His veteran leadership could go a long way to helping build this offense, if he's willing to defect to a long-time division rival.
3. New York Jets
The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins are two AFC East teams who could both add receivers to give their young quarterbacks more weapons. The Jets are right behind the Jaguars as top teams with available salary cap space, and should be adding more players and depth this offseason for new head coach Robert Saleh. New York ranked last in the league in total offense and No. 31 in passing at 174 yards per game. The Jets are a mess and Hilton would really hurt his chances at getting a Super Bowl ring if he signs with Gang Green, but their huge amount of cap space could make them a great destination if he's more worried about getting paid.
