Surprise Defender Turned Heads at Cowboys Minicamp

NFL minicamps give rookies a chance to make an immediate impression on the coaching staff and showcase why they deserve a spot on the team.
It looks like cornerback Nahshon Wright is taking full advantage of his opportunity as he continues to turn heads for the Dallas Cowboys.

Nahshon Wright Cowboys
Wright was the Cowboys' third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and fits the mold of what defensive coordinator Dan Quinn wants in a cornerback. The 22-year-old defender has the size (6-foot-4, 183 pounds) to match up with any opposing pass-catcher and the raw skills of a standout NFL rookie.
Reports say Wright has been around the ball a ton during practices. In fact, he has even racked up a few interceptions and a number of pass breakups. This is a great sign as the Cowboys desperately need to improve a defensive unit that gave up 29.6 points per game last season (No. 28 in NFL).
The former Oregon State Beaver played just two college seasons, but made sure to make his presence known out on the field. Wright posted 64 tackles (1.5 for loss), 5 interceptions and 5 pass breakups over the course of 16 games played.
Dallas has a lot of options at cornerback, so Wright is still going to be fighting for his spot on the depth chart during training camp. However, his performance so far should give the Cowboys a lot of credit for taking him at No. 99 overall when a lot of people thought they were reaching.
