Steelers Make Decision on Dwayne Haskins' Future in Pittsburgh

Dwayne Haskins' NFL career didn't begin as he would've hoped, and that landed him with the Pittsburgh Steelers as the third-string backup behind Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph. With Big Ben expected to make his retirement official, many are wondering what the future holds for Pittsburgh at QB.
The Steelers appear to have made a decision on Haskins ahead of free agency.
The Steelers have indicated to Dwayne Haskins that they plan to place a restricted free agent tender on him for 2022, per source, and Haskins expects that to be an original-round tender, paying in range of $2.5 million. Another suggestion Haskins is in QB mix in Pittsburgh.

Dwayne Haskins Contract
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that Pittsburgh is expected to place a restricted free agent tender on Haskins. He'd be slated to make around $2.5 million, and the Steelers would be able to match any offer he receives.
Should the team not match a deal Haskins signs with someone else, they'd receive a compensation pick where Haskins was originally drafted. The Ohio State product was originally a first-round pick by the Washington Football Team, which would give the Steelers some added draft capital if he is signed by another team.
It's hard to see a robust market for Haskins. He didn't play a snap for the Steelers this season, and his performance with Washington (12 TDs, 14 INTs) along with off-field issues cost him his starting job.
It seems like Haskins has done well with what's been asked of him in Pittsburgh so far, giving him a chance to compete for a starting or primary backup role in 2022.
