With NFL free agency rapidly approaching, teams are cutting down their rosters to free up cap space. That has added some very interesting players to this year's loaded pool of available free agents.

Bleacher Report has projected one of these recent cuts to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers — former New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate.

Golden Tate Steelers

With JuJu Smith-Schuster's future as a Steelers uncertain, at best, Tate could be a great under-the-radar addition to this offense to play alongside Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool.

Largely playing out of the slot, JuJu essentially plays a different position than Claypool, Johnson and James Washington. That's made clear by their respective average depth of target (aDOT) marks from 2020: Claypool (13.2), Washington (12.5) and Johnson (7.9) showed far more downfield usage than Smith-Schuster (5.5).

Those short targets happen to be exactly where Tate thrives. The Giants miscast Tate at times, but his most productive seasons all saw him thrive as a YAC monster. His last 1,000-yard season (2017) saw him rank No. 4 in the NFL in yards after the catch.

Ranking just No. 25 in the NFL in cap space, the Steelers won't be breaking the bank on any big-name free agents, but the 32-year-old Tate should be available on the cheap, and he'd be a perfect fit in the offense if Pittsburgh doesn't re-sign JuJu.
