Tom Brady is clearly loving life with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He's so content in Tampa, in fact, he signed a contract extension with the team on Friday that saves the Bucs $19 million against the cap, which will help the reigning Super Bowl champs in trying to bring back their key free agent contributors.
One of those upcoming free agents is Shaq Barrett, who had a noteworthy response to news of Brady's extension.
Brady announced the extension on Instagram, noting that the Bucs are "keeping the band together," to which Barrett replied with "Yessir." His one-word comment might not be a lot on its own, but given the context of Brady's message, it's clear the move will likely play a role in keeping the star defensive player on the team.
The window to compete with Brady playing at a high level won't be open forever, and it's clear players want to ride out the wave as long as they can.
With Chris Godwin receiving the franchise tag and the Bucs using a contract extension to reduce Lavonte David's cap hit in 2021, the team is being aggressive in reassembling its Super Bowl contender, which is bad news for the rest of the league.
