Sam Darnold Projected for Career Year in 2020 by NFL Odds

After a difficult year for New York Jets fans, which saw team underachieved as a whole and Sam Darnold miss time with mono, they are expected to perform up to expectations this time around. For the team to get where it needs to be, Darnold must continue progressing as a player. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, he will do just that, with the odds pointing to a career year from the third-year quarterback.
Jets offensive line investments so far in free agency: LT George Fant (3-years, $30M), LG Alex Lewis (3-years, $18M), C Connor McGovern (3-years, $27M), RG Greg Van Roten (3-years), G Josh Andrews.

Darnold has been able to play 13 games in each of his first two seasons, leading his team to a 11-15 record. He topped his rookie numbers in all major passing categories last season, finishing with 3,024 yards, 19 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a 61.9 percent completion rate. The odds are pointing to him setting new personal records for yards and touchdowns once again in 2020.
The passing touchdown total for Darnold is set at 22.5, with the over having -106 odds and the under sitting at -116. Darnold's yardage total is set at 3,549.5, with the over and under at -110 apiece. While this may seem like a big jump in passing yardage, it is easily achievable for Darnold, if he is able to stay healthy. If we project last season's per-game average over a full 16-game regular season, he would have passed for 3,722 yards. His pace for touchdowns would have put him at 23 by the same method.
NFL free agency: After signing Panthers’ Greg Van Roten, are Jets any closer to having competent offensive line for Sam Darnold? Some thoughts on that: https://t.co/ZDKhx8Rbzk

The key to the Jets improving on last season's performance will be Darnold's continued progression as an NFL passer. He needs to be seeing points on the board, not "ghosts" on the field. As long as he stays healthy and the Jets draft a wide receiver, the future looks bright.
