Salvador Perez Reaches Incredible Milestone With Royals
By Larry Rupp
Being an MLB catcher is amongst the toughest positions to play in the league. They are involved in every single pitch and play such an important role on the team. Kansas City Royal Salvador Perez knows all about that and more as he has been the team's starter behind the plate for 10 seasons.
In fact, Perez will reach a milestone this afternoon against the Detroit Tigers as it will be his 1,000th game with the Royals. It's notable to point out that only 12 other Kansas City players have reached that mark since the Royals became an MLB team in 1969.
This achievement isn't the only one Perez has reached recently as he also gained his 1,000th career hit a few weeks ago. The 30-year-old catcher is a six-time All-Star and has won a number of awards including five Gold Gloves, three Silver Sluggers and a World series MVP.
Perez has come a long way since he made his MLB debut back in 2011. He has been a mainstay in the Royals lineup ever since and has racked up at least 50 runs scored and 70 RBI in four of his last five full seasons played. He is also slashing .269/.299/.476 for his career.
The Royals legend has carved out quite the career so far and he doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Perez remains one of the best all-around catchers in the league and should be celebrated as such.
