Reds News: Mike Moustakas' Injury Rehab Update is Promising for Cincinnati

It's been more than two months since 3B Mike Moustakas has seen action for the Cincinnati Reds. The veteran infielder has been sidelined since May 18 with a right heel contusion. After multiple snags in his injury rehab process, the Reds finally got some good news on Moustakas' injury update.

Moustakas played a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville and the early results are very promising. The 32-year-old slugger went 1-for-2 with a walk on Friday night, while playing third base in the field, before the game was suspended due to rain.

For the Reds, any sign of a healthy Moustakas is welcomed news. The Reds remain in second place in the NL Central standings, however, now trail the Milwaukee Brewers by 7.0 games with a 55-49 overall record.

Cincinnati was relatively quiet during the MLB's Trade Deadline, one of the most active in recent memory. However, the reinforcements are still en route with the healthy return of their slugging corner infielder coming soon. On the year, in just 28 games, Moustakas is slashing .241/.337/.437 with 4 home runs and 13 RBIs.

Moustakas averages a career .442 slugging percentage and will be an important power bat addition back to Cincinnati's lineup down the stretch.
