It looked like Cincinnati Reds pitcher Tejay Antone could finally put his injury troubles behind him after being activated off of the injured list this week. Then things took an immediate turn, as the reliever left Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers after only five pitches.
Antone clearly was in pian, and the latest on his injury isn't promising.
Tejay Antone Injury Update
Manager David Bell said after the game that Antone "felt something" in his elbow, which is ominous. This latest injury is in the same arm that landed him on the IL for over two months after suffering a strained forearm. It's hard to imagine Antone not being shut down once again.
Antone provided a steady presence out of Cincinnati's bullpen before his injury. He owns a 2.14 ERA this year across 33.2 innings pitched, along with 42 strikeouts.
This is a serious blow for the Reds as they look to secure a postseason appearance. They currently lead the San Diego Padres by just 1.0 game for the second NL Wild Card spot.
