The Boston Red Sox weren't expected to do much this season. They were barely above .500 back in 2019 and finished 24-36 last year while manager Alex Cora was sidelined with a one-year suspension. But with Cora back at the helm, Boston has gotten off to a fantastic start in 2021.

After losing their first three games, the Red Sox have ripped off nine straight wins, currently sitting in first place in the AL East at 9-3. As a result, Boston's odds to win the division have skyrocketed, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Red Sox AL East Odds

Entering the year with +2000 odds to win the AL East crown, the Red Sox's hot start has them sitting at +500, tying them for the second-best odds in the division. That's a pretty significant jump. The Sox now only trail the 5-7 New York Yankees (+200).

The team owes its impressive start to the offense. Boston is currently averaging 6.00 runs per game (No. 2 in MLB), boasting the league's second-best team batting average (.283) and third-best slugging percentage (.474). Those numbers will surely regress at some point, but with stars like J.D. Martinez, Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers, it's not like this is a complete fluke, either.

And if the offense can continue to be a top-three lineup, the pitching staff might be able to do just enough to get this team into contention. Boston is currently allowing 4.00 runs per game this season (T-No. 10 in MLB), and their pitchers cumulatively own a 3.67 ERA (No. 11 in MLB).

With a dominant offense and a rotation that might be just good enough, it doesn't look like the Sox are going away anytime soon.
