The free agent market continues to be relatively quiet as the top names take their time to decide on their next destinations. The Boston Red Sox are expected to be one of the clubs in the hunt for premier talent this offseason as they look to improve after a disappointing 2022 campaign.
Now Boston has officially been linked to one of the top international free agents available this winter.
Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports the Red Sox have "made contact" with the representatives of Japanese star Kodai Senga. The starting pitcher being posted without fees or draft compensation has "broaded his marketplace," according to Morosi.
Interest rising in Senga is certainly notable. Multiple teams around the majors have already been eyeing the 29-year-old, and now it's been revealed Boston is one of them.
Senga would certainly give the Red Sox's rotation a major boost. He's coming off of a stellar 2022 showing, going 11-6 with a 1.89 ERA in 23 appearances. He racked up 159 strikeouts and only allowed 31 earned runs across 148.0 innings of work.
Senga's expected jump to the majors and his free agency recruitment will be a major story to watch this winter.
