The Tampa Bay Rays lost a disappointing 13-inning affair, 8-6, to the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. Unfortunately, the tally in the loss column wasn't the worst part of the Rays' defeat as infielder Wander Franco revealed that he's dealing with a lower-body injury.

Franco spoke to reporters (via translator Manny Navarro) after the game, saying that a lingering quad injury prevented him from sliding into home plate in the top of the 13th inning. Regardless of how severe his injury is, this isn't the news that Rays fans wanted to hear.

To make matters worse, Franco added that his quad has felt off over the last couple of days. There's no word as to whether or not he'll suit up to face the Orioles again on Saturday night.

Hamstring injuries aren't anything new for Franco. While he's been dealing with the current one since the beginning of May, he also landed on the injured list in September 2021 for right hamstring issues as well.

The 21-year-old is one of the Rays' most exciting players to watch and hopefully some time off helps him get back into the lineup sooner than later, should he miss time. He's seen 152 at-bats this season, recording four home runs, 16 RBIs and seven walks while batting .263.

The Rays can certainly afford to rest Franco during Saturday's rematch against the Orioles. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently listing Tampa Bay as the -124 moneyline road favorite while Baltimore sits at +106.
