The Baltimore Ravens were unable to overcome a slew of injuries this past NFL season and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Head coach John Harbaugh is going to have his team determined to not let that happen again and enters the offseason with a simple goal of improving.

One way the Ravens' can better position themselves in a tough AFC North division is by using their $16.4 million in available cap space to be active in free agency. Baltimore can really shake things up by stealing cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon away from the rival Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ravens Free Agency

The Ravens have one glaring weakness and that is in the defensive secondary. Baltimore posted the third-worst pass defense DVOA rating in the NFL and allowed the most yards through the air per game (278.9). Getting Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Peters back will help, but this team is still set to lose a ton of talent in the secondary this offseason.

Bringing in Witherspoon is a great first step in building some depth at CB. The five-year pro racked up 3 interceptions and 9 pass breakups in 2021 despite only playing in nine games. His ability to cause opposing receivers to disappear on offense should gain the attention of Baltimore's front office.

It's important to note that this move wouldn't break the bank for the Ravens, either. Witherspoon's market value is expected to be no more than $6 million and he may be open to signing a short-term prove it deal. The team cannot afford a big-name ballhawk right now, so Witherspoon is a great option.

No matter what, Baltimore has to address this secondary. The Ravens currently have odds set at +2100 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
