Raheem Mostert Injury Update Gives Him Fantasy Value in Week 5

Raheem Mostert began the 2020 NFL season as a big play machine, taking a short reception for a 76-yard touchdown in Week 1, and then going 80 yards on his first hand-off in Week 2. Unfortunately, the good times didn't last much longer than that as the running back left the Week 2 game against the New York Jets with an MCL injury.
Now in Week 5, Mostert could return for the San Francisco 49ers. Here's the latest on his chances.
49ers’ RB Raheem Mostert (knee) and WR Deebo Samuel (illness), both listed as questionable for today’s game against the Dolphins, both “should be good (to play)”, per source.

Raheem Mostert Week 5 Fantasy Outlook
In Mostert's absence, the finally-healthy Jerick McKinnon has become the feature back, with Jeff Wilson Jr. handling shorter yardage situations. McKinnon has not stood out in this role, with only 3.29 yards per carry since Mostert has been out. He still excels as a pass-catcher and third down change of pace, but Mostert's return might actually be welcomed by McKinnon.
The two seem to work better together, than apart, and Kyle Shanahan's system has always dominated opposing defenses when the running backs feed off one another. So with Mostert's status edging towards probable, is he a smart fantasy play against the Miami Dolphins?
The Dolphins defense ranks 20th against the run with 124.8 rush yards per game allowed this season. In a normal situation, Mostert would be a definite start in this type of situation, but the strength of his knee makes this a tricky decision.
Coming in at #1, #2, and #10 of fastest ball carriers in the NFL for 1Q: Raheem Mostert. In 1-1/2 games. https://t.co/XqJTnSo5wP

The Niners could rest Mostert if they have a lead and don't feel they need him, or he could re-injury his knee and leave the game early (worst-case scenarios). He's also one big play away from his third-straight fantasy explosion.
While this injury update does give Mostert some fantasy value, there is just too much risk to expect a huge performance. Depending on your depth, the best call might be to weigh your options and determine if the 49ers running back is worth taking the chance.
