One would have to imagine that any NBA franchise that trades away one of the best players in basketball would be staring at a much bleaker future. But apparently the New Orleans Pelicans are beyond the bounds of this logic.

After sending Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for a host of young talent and first-round NBA Draft picks, the Pelicans' odds to win the 2020 NBA Finals have drastically improved, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Prior to Saturday night's blockbuster trade, New Orleans had +18000 odds of winning next year's Larry O'Brien trophy, which left the Pelicans tied for the second-worst odds in the league. However, in the wake of Davis' departure and news of their incoming assets, the Pelicans' odds of winning the 2020 NBA Championship surprisingly improved to +10000.

The return New Orleans is set to get for Davis includes Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, two future first-round picks, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. The Pelicans also won the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery and the No. 1 overall pick, which most expect to be Duke's Zion Williamson.

As for the other side of this deal, pairing Davis with LeBron James and Kyle Kuzma made the Lakers the new betting favorite to win the 2020 NBA title, improving from +800 to +390 odds.

While the Pelicans no longer have one of the greatest talents in the league, the latest odds to win the 2020 NBA Finals seem to at least reflect that there is a bright NBA future in the Big Easy.
