A roster spot is never guaranteed in the NFL, especially on the New England Patriots.
Wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey learned that the hard way on Wednesday, as he was released from the Patriots' practice squad.

Humphrey's release came as a surprise, as he'd been one of the few bright spots during a rough preseason for the Patriots. With the team in need of help at wide receiver, it seemed like the 24-year-old offseason pickup might be able to take a step forward after showing signs of promise in three seasons with the New Orleans Saints.
His success during training camp failed to carry over into the regular season, however, as he struggled to make an impact. Humphrey got into three games but only drew 4 targets, resulting in 2 receptions for 20 yards.
With Humphrey relegated to the practice squad over the past month, the Patriots apparently felt it was time to move on, especially as they fight for a playoff spot in the muddled AFC. New England enters Week 11 at 5-4 with +144 odds to make the postseason on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
