For the past two decades, the New England Patriots have been the class of the NFL. Sure, there have been ups and downs, but this team has always been considered among the NFL's elite since 2001. And even after losing Tom Brady and a few other key contributors, fans are still mostly optimistic about the 2020 season.

However, Peter King's latest power rankings could put a bit of a damper on that, as he has New England ranked shockingly low.

Patriots Power Ranking

King has New England at No. 21 overall. That's the third-lowest ranking of any AFC East team, trailing the Buffalo Bills (No. 13) and even the Miami Dolphins (No. 19). The Patriots are comfortably ahead of the New York Jets (No. 28), though.

His opinion is certainly not backed up by the oddsmakers, however. FanDuel Sportsbook currently has New England as the favorite to win the AFC East (+120) narrowly edging out Buffalo (+130). Both teams are well ahead of New York (+750) and Miami (+900).

Bill Belichick always seems to find a way to coax wins out of his team, regardless of the amount of talent he has on the field. But if these power rankings are any indication, the 2020 season could be his toughest test yet.
