The 2022 MLB season has come to a conclusion, meaning front offices around the league are now going to start shifting attention to offseason free agents. 131 players were officially declared as free agents on Sunday, including two Chicago Cubs pros that made a noteworthy impact this past year.

As many Cubs fans already know, longtime catcher Willson Contreras officially hit unrestricted free agency after seven years with the franchise. He's one of the best hitting backstops in baseball, and slashed .243/.349/.466 with 22 home runs and 55 RBIs in 2022.

Hitting is hard to come by at the catcher position and that means Contreras will have his share of suitors during the offseason.

The other player to officially hit free agency is pitcher Wade Miley. The Cubs selected Miley off the Cincinnati Reds' waivers prior to the season before the veteran lefty made eight starts across parts of May and September. Miley tossed 37.0 innings while pitching to a 3.16 ERA.

Chicago is viewed as a team willing to spend big this offseason. Does that mean brining back Contreras? Only time will tell.

For now, the Cubs hold +7000 odds to win the 2023 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
