An offseason highlighted by Aaron Rodgers retirement rumors and a blockbuster trade of wide receiver Davante Adams has left Packers fans wondering what 2022 will bring. After all, Green Bay is in search of its fourth consecutive 13-win season and Rodgers is in search of another MVP Award.

First things first, the Packers are tasked with trimming off some roster fat before Week 1 arrives. Green Bay's depth is no joke, so the decisions may not be as easy as they seem. With that in mind, here's a look at three Packers players that won't be on the roster at the start of the 2022 NFL season.

Packers Roster Rumors

1. Danny Davis III, WR

Green Bay currently possesses five wide receivers that caught passes from Rodgers last season in addition to three dynamic rookies. The only other two left on the depth chart are free agent signings Sammy Watkins and undrafted free agent Danny Davis III. All signs point to Davis being the odd man out here considering he never posted more than 500 yards from scrimmage during a college season. It's hard to see him making enough of an impact on special teams to warrant a roster spot. Davis' time with the Packers could be over before it even started.

2. Chris Slayton, DL

The Packers were quick to snag defensive lineman Chris Slayton off waiver following his release from the San Francisco 49ers in late May. There's little reason to believe his stay lasts past training camp, though. Kenny Clark is one of the most reliable nose tackles in the NFL and backup T.J. Slaton appeared in all 17 games in 2021. The Packers also used a seventh-round pick to select Jonathan Ford out of Miami. Slayton hasn't played a single snap since entering the NFL in 2019, so the edge has to go to Ford in this positional battle.

3. Dominik Eberle, K

Mason Crosby's 2021 season was highlighted by a couple of crucial missed field goals. He still nailed 49 of his 51 extra point attempts as well as three of his four FGA from 50+ yards, though. The veteran should be given the leg up to secure the starting gig once again, which would hang Dominik Eberle out to dry. Eberle joined the Packers as an undrafted free agent this offseason after a stellar career at Utah State. He'll need an impressive showing in training camp to overtake a 15-year veteran.
