Orioles News: Spenser Watkins Broke Impressive Streak in First MLB Start

It was a long road to Baltimore Orioles pitcher Spenser Watkins' first MLB start on Tuesday. The former 30th-round draft pick in 2014 contemplated giving up his major league dream before this season, but he finally got a call-up in July and pitched an inning of relief last week.
He then delivered for Baltimore in a big way on Tuesday.
Leftover from last night. Spenser Watkins not only earned his first MLB win, he broke a streak of 24 straight games for the #orioles without a starter getting a win. The most in club history, per STATS. They also had a 23-game streak back in May.

Watkins recorded 5.0 innings of work for Baltimore against the Toronto Blue Jays, giving up just 3 hits and 1 earned run. The Orioles went on to win 7-5, and Watkins earned the W as starter. Besides being a major accomplishment for 28-year-old, it broke a streak of 24 straight games without an Orioles' starter win. Not bad for his first taste of action in the majors.
Wins have been hard to come by for Baltimore this season, as they currently own the worst record in the AL at 28-63. Watkins' performance on Tuesday was a bright spot in a year full of struggles. He should have a chance to prove his worth in the majors with the Orioles' season all but lost.
