Nick Bosa is coming off a remarkable campaign that netted him the 2019 Defensive Rookie of the Year award. In fact, he's one of just four players since 2006 to have racked up at least 9 sacks and 25 QB hits, joining the ranks of top-tier talents like Von Miller and Aldon Smith.
The San Francisco 49ers might need him to do a lot more in year two, though, as the team will move forward without DeForest Buckner. And judging by Bosa's latest comments, he's extremely aware of just how important Buckner was to the team.
Buckner has been an absolute force on the 49ers defensive line since being drafted in 2016. He amassed a total of 263 tackles, 38 tackles for loss, 28.5 sacks and 74 quarterback hits.
Bosa's quote reveals that Buckner was more than just highly productive, however. He was the leader of one of the league's best defensive lines, and that's a void the team will need to find a way to fill.
Whether it's ultimately Bosa or someone like Arik Armstead, Dee Ford or rookie Javon Kinlaw that fills this role, it's certainly interesting to see just how valuable Buckner was to one of the league's most dangerous defenses.
