LaMelo Ball was in the midst of an impressive rookie year, and looking to be headed toward winning Rookie of the Year honors, but Ball suffered a potentially season-ending injury on Sunday night. And with that, his odds to win Rookie of the Year have dropped.
LaMelo Ball Rookie of the Year Odds
Ball, who has been the favorite for some time now, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, now sits in second place at +200. Former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Edwards, of the Minnesota Timberwolves, is the odds-on favorite now at -175.
Anthony Edwards Rookie of the Year Odds
Edwards had an up-and-down start to his rookie campaign, but he has put up some impressive performances lately, including a 42-point game against the Phoenix Suns last week. The 19-year-old shooting guard is averaging 16.7 points per game, 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists on the season.
Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton is third in the odds, sitting at +500, and then there is a huge dropoff, with New York Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley coming in at +2400.
There is still time left in the NBA regular season for the odds to shift, but with LaMelo seemingly out of the picture, it's clear that it's Edwards' award to lose from here on out.
