The 2020-21 NBA season is not yet two months old, but a young star is making his mark in the Rookie of the Year race. Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball has increased his lead as the favorite over other solid rookies.

LaMelo Ball Rookie of the Year Odds

Ball is the prohibitive favorite to win the award with NBA futures odds of -350 at FanDuel Sportsbook. A month aga, Ball was -210 and he started the season as the favorite at +390. LeMelo leads all rookies in scoring (14.35), assists (6.12), steals (1.42) and he's No. 2 in rebounds per game (5.77). Ball's efficiency rating also ranks best, just ahead of fellow point guard, Tyrese Haliburton of the Sacramento Kings, who is the only challenger for Rookie of the Year with odds of +600.

The Hornets are currently 12-14 this season, but Charlotte leads the Southeast division. Ball has increased his scoring in February, averaging 21.6 points in six games. That included a season high 34 points in a 138-121 loss to the Utah Jazz.

Rounding out the Rookie of the Year odds: PG Immanuel Quickley (+1600) of the New York Knicks, C James Wiseman (+1600) of the Golden State Warriors, SG Anthony Edwards (+1800) of the Minnesota Timberwolves and PG Cole Anthony (+3000) of the Orlando Magic.

Plenty of basketball ahead, but the Rookie of the Year Award is LeMelo's to lose.
