NBA DFS 2/28/2022
Without further ado, here are three players to target and two to avoid in Monday, 2/28, NBA DFS action.
FanDuel Picks Tonight NBA - 2/28
Giannis Antetokounmpo Fantasy
Target Giannis Antetokounmpo, PF/SF, Milwaukee Bucks ($11,500): Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo owns the highest salary on tonight's slate and for good reason. He's red-hot averaging 63.7 DFS points per game the past three, including 37.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game. The matchup makes Giannis a must-start given the Hornets rank bottom-10 in defensive rating but the second-highest pace across the league. Giannis combined for 121.5 DFS points in two January matchups against the Hornets and that trend continues tonight.
Malcolm Brodgon Fantasy
Target Malcolm Brodgon, PG/SG, Indiana Pacers ($5,800): Malcolm Brodgon returned from a lengthy 15-game absence to post 17.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in his past two games. That's also included 30.1 minutes per game and a 48.1% shooting percentage on a 20.7% usage rate. Simply put, Brogdon is a super safe target given his cheap $5,800 salary. Orlando presents an opportunity to continue his strong play, given their 24th ranking in defensive rating. Don't pass up on Brogdon's value before the DFS pricing catches up.
*Malcolm Brogdon was ruled out due to injury management after this article was posted. Jalen Suggs ($6,000) of the Orlando Magic or Seth Curry ($5,900) of the Brooklyn Nets are viable pivots in DFS lineups.
Brandon Goodwin Fantasy
Target Brandon Goodwin, PG, Cleveland Cavaliers ($5,300): This value target comes down to a simple injury status: the Cavaliers will be without Darius Garland and Rajon Rondo tonight, thrusting Goodwin into a starting role. There's a good chance he plays at least 35 minutes given Garland and Rondo combine for 56.3 minutes per game. The missing duo also boast more than a 26% usage rate, so there's plenty of opportunity for Goodwin. It's mostly a question of what he can do given the opportunity, but the fourth-year guard averages 14.3 points, 5.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds per 36 minutes played.
Nikola Vucevic Fantasy
Avoid Nikola Vucevic, C, Chicago Bulls ($9,000): Chicago Bulls big man Nikola Vucevic is listed as probable for tonight's matchup with the Miami Heat, nursing a sprained left ankle. Vucevic has been good for 41.8 DFS points per game this season, but this will be one of his toughest matchups on the year. The Heat rank fourth in field goal percentage to opponent centers (44.1%) and sixth in overall defensive rating. What's worse is Miami's defense allowing the fewest opponent rebounds (41.8 rpg). At $9,000, there's no way to justify starting the Bulls big, who averages just 8.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two previous meetings against the Heat.
Fred VanVleet Fantasy
Avoid Fred VanVleet, PG, Toronto Raptors ($8,100): Fred VanVleet has struggled of late, averaging just 16.0 points and 2.0 turnovers per game in three straight Raptors losses with him on the court. He's shot just 32.4% from the floor, 33.% from deep in that stretch and should be avoided until he turns things around. VanVleet's season averages of 21.4 points per game on 41.5% shooting just shows how cold he's been. This doesn't even consider the Brooklyn Nets defense, which still rates top half in defensive rating over their past 5 games and a middle of the pack pace (14th).
