The push for a pennant continues into August as the 2021 MLB regular season moves forward following the trade deadline. The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays are in a tight duel for AL East supremacy.
The Red Sox acquired All-Star outfielder Kyle Schwarber from the Washington Nationals at the trade deadline, and added some bullpen help. The Rays added DH slugger Nelson Cruz from the Minnesota Twins.
The New York Yankees started the season as the favorite in the American League, and they have ground to make up in the AL East. But, the Bronx Bombers did add upgrades on both sides of the ball at the trade deadline with outfield slugger Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers and 1B Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs. New York also bolstered their starting pitching by trading for lefty Andrew Heaney of the Los Angeles Angels.
