The Dallas Cowboys are one of those teams with a lot of competition for reps heading into the 2021 season. Dallas has three talented wide receivers in Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup. Not to mention, all of the volume that running back Ezekiel Elliott requires.

With that in mind, some are shying away from Michael Gallup on their fantasy rosters. But, fantasy managers shouldn't overlook Gallup's potential as a solid FLEX option this season.

Michael Gallup Fantasy Value

Average draft position (ADP) data from FantasyPros lists Gallup as WR45 for full PPR formats. That already puts him on the bench for most rosters, but there's a lot of upside value in Gallup's game.

Last year, when quarterback Dak Prescott was healthy, Gallup ranked as WR27 in half-PPR formats. This included both Cooper and Lamb ranking top-16. The Cowboys are primed to have a big offensive year in 2021.

In 2019, the last full year with a healthy Prescott, the Cowboys offense ranked first in the NFL in total yards (6,904) and second in passing yards (4,751). With a healthy Prescott and the second-year emergence of Lamb, this offense should break out for another monster campaign.

Gallup finished with 1,000+ receiving yards and 113 targets during that 2019 run. While Lamb is likely to take away some of these targets, it's hard to pass up on the chemistry Prescott and Gallup have.

Another aspect to consider is Gallup's boom-or-bust potential each and every week. In 2019, Gallup recorded five weeks with at least 15 fantasy points (half-PPR) while going under 10 in six of them. But, he also saw a 30+ point performance during that span.

In 2020, Gallup went for 20+ points twice. If you can live with his inconsistent performances, he's sure to help you win at least a few weeks of your season with monster games. But he may be a little too volatile to trust as an every-week option.

Michael Gallup ADP

With that in mind, fantasy managers should consider using Gallup as a FLEX option if they're ok with the output from their other playmakers. If not, stash him on the bench and wait to see if any injuries pop up amongst Dallas' weapons.

Gallup comes in ranked as WR46 on The Duel's preseason fantasy football rankings.
