The New York Mets were quick to address Jacob deGrom's free-agency departure with their own signing of Justin Verlander. While the team still has some holes to fill in the starting rotation, they are also focused on bringing back outfielder Brandon Nimmo.

MLB insider Jon Heyman revealed the team's backup plan should they not retain Nimmo, however.

Brandon Nimmo Mets Rumors

New York "will consider" Kevin Kiermaier if Nimmo leaves for a different team. Kiermaier is best known for his slick glove, winning three Gold Glove awards during a 10-year run with the Tampa Bay Rays.

While the 32-year-old veteran is primarily known for his defense, he's also flashed some power and speed throughout his career with 82 home runs and 112 stolen bases.

Nimmo is the better, younger (and more expensive) option, but it's good to know the team has a fallback plan in case he ends up somewhere else.
