Other than a hot 17-9 record in May, the New York Mets have been one of the more underwhelming teams in baseball this year. Naturally, the slew of injury troubles has held this back, but they are better than their current 55-50 overall record. In fact, New York is 38-39 in the months of April, June and July.

Fortunately for the Mets, the rest of the NL East has struggled mightily in 2021 and New York finds themselves with a 2.5-game lead in the division standings. FanDuel Sportsbook recently revealed betting odds for the Mets' chance to make the playoffs.

According to the betting odds, New York is a -210 favorite to make the postseason compared to their +164 odds to miss out on the playoffs.

New York Mets Playoff Odds

Part of the recent disappointment for New York is continued underperformance after the busy MLB Trade Deadline. The front office did fail to add any significant pitching depth, but New York traded for a proven World Series winner in Javier Baez. The season has been confounded by superior pitching and a lackluster offense.

On the year, New York owns the ninth-best pitching staff by ERA (3.66) in the league. Prior to the devastating Jacob deGrom injury troubles, this staff ranked closer to the top-5 on that list. But, offensively, the Mets have scored just 400 runs in 105 games to rank 29th of 30 teams.

The latest NL East division odds on FanDuel see the Mets with -210 odds to win the divisional crown. However, with the standings inching closer and closer, the Philadelphia Phillies now rank second with just +320 odds. Philly is closing in and the Mets will need to turn around things at the plate to secure their first postseason appearance since 2016.
