The boys of summer are ready for Opening Day, and FanDuel Sportsbook has you covered for the MLB Player Futures and odds on league leaders. New York Mets' fan-favorite and star first baseman Pete Alonso is projected for a big year in 2021. For the second straight season, the Mets 26-year-old slugger is a favorite to hit the most home runs, alongside Los Angeles Angels superstar CF Mike Trout.

Alonso and Trout are both +1200 to lead the majors in home runs.

Coming off a down year and pandemic-shortened season in 2020, Alonso hit just .231 while playing 57 of the Mets 60 games. He didn't make as much hard contact, but the power threat still smacked 16 home runs, which tied for seventh in the majors. Trout hit 17 HRs last season, and is still the superior player. But the Angels future Hall of Famer hasn’t played in more than 140 games since 2016.

Alonso set the MLB record for most home runs by a rookie in 2019, leading the majors with 53. Although last year’s experimental rule to extend the designated hitter to the National League is not in place for 2021, Alonso is still a major threat to lead the league in home runs as he plays more games at first base. Chances are he'll have another big home run season.

But with potential injuries, low odds and six other players with odds of +2000 or less, consider all your MLB betting options and strategies, and make the bets you want this baseball season.
