The New York Mets are dealing with a rash of injuries throughout their lineup and pitching corps. Starter Carlos Carrasco still hasn't made his Mets debut since this offseason's blockbuster trade, which has hurt the starting rotation.

And now Joey Lucchesi has suffered a scary injury that threatens his season.

Joey Lucchesi Injury Update

A recent MRI revealed a UCL tear for Lucchesi that could require Tommy John surgery. That's about the worst injury news you can get on a pitcher, and now New York will likely need to finish the 2021 campaign without Lucchesi in their rotation.

The left-hander has a 4.46 ERA on the season across 38.1 innings pitched while racking up 41 strikeouts and just 11 walks. The return of Carrasco could help soften the blow of losing Lucchesi, but he may not see action until some point in July at the earliest.

New York currently owns first place in the NL East with a 37-30 record, 4.0 games ahead of second place, though they could be active at the trade deadline to acquire reinforcements for a World Series run. The Mets are tied for the third-best odds (+850) to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
