There's one name and one name only that the Carolina Panthers are most interested in keeping healthy. That's none other than running back Christian McCaffrey, who suffered a concerning hamstring injury in Week 3.
Fortunately, it looks like the Panthers have avoided a disaster. Head coach Matt Rhule recently provided a great injury update on the Pro Bowl running back.
Christian McCaffrey Injury Update
Although initial reports suggested a trip to the injured reserve list was possible, or even probable, Rhule explained that McCaffrey will not be placed on the IR, which stipulates at least three weeks of missed time.
Carolina already experienced life without one of the NFL's top playmakers in 2020. McCaffrey was held to just three games and the Panthers went 5-11.
With 2.5 games of healthy McCaffrey this year, Carolina is out to a perfect 3-0 start and remains just one of five undefeated teams across the league.
The non-placement of McCaffrey on IR indicates the Panthers hope to have him back sometime before three weeks. The less time he's out the better. After all, McCaffrey ranks seventh in the NFL with 201 rushing yards. He's notched one rushing touchdown in addition to 16 receptions for 163 receiving yards.
