The Boston Celtics came into Game 1 against the Golden State Warriors as 3.5-point underdogs. They came into the fourth quarter down much more than that, trailing 92-80. But thanks to a tremendous fourth-quarter performance from guys like Jaylen Brown, Al Horford, and Derrick White, the Celtics stormed back to win, 120-108.
That epic 40-16 run in the fourth quarter created a seismic shift in FanDuel Sportsbook's odds to win the NBA Finals.
2022 NBA Finals Odds
Boston is now a relatively heavy favorite to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy; the Celtics are listed at -170. Golden State, on the other hand, has fallen down to +140.
Game 1 essentially flipped the odds. Boston came into the series opener at +130 to win it all while Golden State was listed at +160. The series is far from over, though. Golden State is a 4-point favorite ahead of Game 2, and the Warriors are -174 on the moneyline.
Looking at the rest of the odds, FanDuel Sportsbook lists the Celtics winning in six games (+310) as the most likely outcome. Boston is +490 to win in five games and +600 to sweep or win in seven. Golden State's best chance appears to be pushing this to seven, as GSW is +350 to win in seven games and greater than 6-to-1 odds to win in either five or six.
But if Game 1 taught us anything, it's that this series can shift in the blink of an eye. Expect these odds to keep moving as the series progresses.
