The Carolina Panthers had gone through the early portion of NFL training camp without sustaining any major injuries. The bad news is that may no longer be the case. Veteran defensive lineman Marquis Haynes went down clutching his left knee on Saturday and was carted to the locker room.

Haynes sustained the injury during scrimmage action and needed to be helped off the field by teammates Brian Burns and Matt Ionannidis. He was immediately taken to a cart and transported indoors to the training facility. He will undergo further testing to fully diagnose what happened.

“I have no update on Marquis. We have to get all the testing and all that. We’ll get you something as soon as we know.”

Losing Haynes for any amount of time would be a big blow. The Panthers are already thin on pass rushers as head coach Matt Rhule continues to stress the team's desire to add more talent to the roster. Carolina is left with little options after losing out on signing Carlos Dunlap in free agency.

Haynes is entering his fifth NFL season and appeared in every game for the Panthers in 2021. Over the course of his career, the Ole Miss product has racked up 54 tackles, 12 quarterback hits, 8.0 sacks, 2 pass breakups and 1 forced fumble in 47 games. Haynes in under contract through 2023.

Keep an eye out for any updates regarding Haynes' status. For now, Carolina has odds set at +410 to make the NFL Playoffs and odds set at +10000 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
