Marlins News: Miami Gets Bad News on Trevor Rogers Injury Update

At 28-35 and sitting 7.0 games behind the New York Mets for first place in the NL East, the Miami Marlins' 2021 MLB season has been largely disappointing. A big reason behind the team's lack of success could be attributed to the injury issues that they've had to endure. Now, left-handed pitcher Trevor Rogers is the latest Miami player to find himself out of the rotation.
The Marlins and their fans got bad news on Saturday as Rogers was placed on the COVID-19 injured list. There's no indication of how long he'll be out of the lineup, but this isn't the injury update that Miami was hoping for.
Players on the COVID-related IL also don't count against a team's 40-man roster, which is why no other move had to be made to get Guilmet on the 40-man and 26-man active roster

Even though it's never fun to see a player end up on the injured list, the good thing about Rogers' placement is that it doesn't necessarily mean that he's contracted COVID-19. Side effects to receiving a vaccine is another reason why players can end up on the COVID-related injured list. If that's the case, the 23-year-old lefty could be back sooner than later.
Rogers has been one of the bright spots for the Marlins this season during his sophomore campaign. He's started in 13 games so far, pitching to a 7-3 record with a 2.02 ERA. With this performance, he's currently tied with Los Angeles Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw for the 12th-best odds to win the NL Cy Young Award at +4000, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Meanwhile, FanDuel Sportsbook doesn't have too much faith in the Marlins winning their division as the season continues. Miami currently has the worst odds to win the NL East at +3200.
