Cornerback Jeff Okudah played in just one game for the Detroit Lions last season before suffering a torn Achilles. Fans want to see him back healthy, but his latest injury update comes with mixed news. While he seems to be participating in drills, Okudah does not have a concrete return timeline.
Jeff Okudah Injury Update
Tim Twentyman reported that Okudah is taking part in individual drills at Lions OTAs on Thursday. That is a great step in his recovery as his ability to cut on a dime will be crucial in covering opposing receivers. Okudah has allowed only 275 yards after the catch across 10 career games.
Meanwhile, head coach Dan Campbell remains adamant that he does not know if Okudah will be ready to go when training camp starts in July. The 2020 No. 3 overall pick has been progressing well in the offseason when it comes to his ability to sprint on the field.
Getting the 23-year-old back in the lineup would be a huge boost for a Detroit secondary that allowed the second-highest yards per completion mark in 2021 (11.6). Okudah showed flashes of greatness as a rookie, racking up 47 tackles (4.0 for loss), 2 pass breakups and 1 interception in nine games.
More updates should be released as Lions OTAs continue in the month of June. For now, Campell's squad will look to improve after winning just three games last year. Detroit has a win total projection set at 6.5 and odds set at +370 to make the playoffs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
