Keenan Allen Injury Update Clouds Fantasy Value in Week 8 Against Bears

The Los Angeles Chargers' offense was likely going to have a tough time this weekend, going up against a stout Chicago Bears' defense in Week 8. While not quite as dominant as last season's version, the Bears D is allowing the sixth-fewest points per game (PPG) in the NFL (17.5), and the Chargers aren't exactly lighting up the scoreboard, averaging the ninth-lowest mark (20.0 PPG) in the league.

And putting points on the board might have just gotten a bit tougher, as star WR Keenan Allen was downgraded with a mid-week hamstring injury – something that is rarely a good sign.

Allen was not on the team's injury report on Wednesday, and was held out of practice entirely on Thursday. Of course, it will be particularly important for Allen's fantasy owners to monitor his status, as there should be an update later this afternoon. His status Friday will point fantasy owners in one direction or another, but having a back-up plan is likely a good idea heading into the weekend.

In the event that Allen is ruled out, it's fair to expect a boost in production from both Hunter Henry, Mike Williams and even Austin Ekeler in the team's passing game.

Williams caught 10 TDs last season, but he's suffered from the Chargers lack of offensive production, and has yet to find the end zone this season. Still, with Allen seeing a 25 percent target share, which is tied for the seventh-highest mark in the NFL, Williams will likely see far more opportunities than usual if Allen sits.

Henry, meanwhile, has been extremely productive since returning from injury in Week 6. He's amassed at least 97 receiving yards in back-to-back games adding two TDs while leading all tight ends in air yards (194) during that two-game span.

If Allen does play, we have him ranked as WR6 in our Week 8 fantasy football PPR rankings. However, if he's sidelined, the other Chargers' pass-catchers will all see a boost in our rankings and their production come Sunday.
