Tensions are running high after the Baltimore Ravens' collapse against the Buffalo Bills. Head coach John Harbaugh has come under fire for his costly fourth-down decision that ultimately failed.
Baltimore missed out on an easy three points as a result of that call, and Buffalo went on to win 23-20, making the decision even more frustrating. Harbaugh attempted to explain his decision after the game.
Harbaugh thought going for it on fourth down gave Baltimore "the best chance to win the game." He didn't want to put his defense at a disadvantage by only getting a field goal and allowing the Bills to be in four-down territory for the rest of the fourth quarter.
Harbaugh's explanation isn't going to make Ravens fans any happier about the decision. It appears he simply overthought the situation and was too hung up on what could happen instead of focusing on just putting points on the board.
Walking away with a three-point lead was clearly the better option than potentially coming away with nothing. That would've put the pressure on Buffalo to score a touchdown in order to win, and it would've eliminated the possibility of a Bills field goal winning them the game. Instead, Buffalo marched down the field with the score tied and kicked a game-winning FG as time expired.
Harbaugh's obvious miscue will certainly put the pressure on him and his staff heading into a crucial Week 5. Baltimore is now just 2-2 on the year and has a tough upcoming schedule that includes the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in three of its next four games.
