Philadelphia Eagles fans woke up to some bad news on Tuesday morning when it was revealed that center Jason Kelce would miss practice due to an elbow injury. While Eagles insider Jeff McLane initially reported that the issue "isn’t deemed significant," things took a turn for the worse shortly after.

Less than two hours after McLane's report, NFL Network's James Palmer revealed that Kelce must undergo surgery to fix his elbow injury. The initial plan was to let him play through any discomfort, but that isn't the case anymore.

Jason Kelce Injury Update

The Eagles described Kelce's procedure as a "routine cleanout" that should yield a "speedy recovery." With about a month to go until the 2022 season begins, there's a chance that the veteran playing streak could come to an end. He hasn't missed a game since Week 8 of the 2014 NFL season, playing 122 consecutive regular-season games.

If Kelce is sidelined to begin the new season, there's no doubt that his presence will be missed. He's been named first-team All-Pro in four of the last five years and is coming off a campaign where he only allowed one sack while taking four penalties on 993 offensive snaps.

The Eagles had the top run game in the NFL last year, averaging 156.1 rushing yards per game. Kelce played a key role to achieve that level of production and even if the rest of Philadelphia's offensive line is solid, it'll be tough to replicate the five-time Pro-Bowler's reliability as one of the league's best.

For now, it doesn't seem like there aren't any reasons to worry about Kelce in the long term. The Eagles seem confident that he'll be back on the field sooner than later, leaving time to tell if he can get healthy enough to participate at some point in the preseason.

Eagles Super Bowl Odds

Kelce is needed at full strength if the Eagles hope to shock their doubters by winning Super Bowl LVII. With the regular season approaching, Philadelphia sits at +3000 odds (No. 14) to win this year's title, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
