The Cleveland Guardians are fighting to stay alive in the American League Central and currently sit 4.5 games back of first place with a 24-25 record. The good news is that they should be getting a rotation boost in the next few weeks as starter Aaron Civale continues to progress in his recovery.
Aaron Civale Injury Update
Cleveland manager Terry Francona said Civale threw a side session on Monday and is expected to go through pitchers' fielding practice drills on Tuesday. That is a great first step toward getting back on the mound. All signs point to Civale also taking part in a Triple-A rehab assignment in the near future.
Civale originally suffered a left glute injury while covering the first base bag on May 20. The 26-year-old then had to have a blood clot drained from the area prior to resuming baseball activities. It did speed up his recovery process, though, and allowed him to get back to working on his mechanics.
Saying that it hasn't been the best start to the year for Civale is an understatement. He has posted a 2-3 record to go along with a dismal 7.84 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. The Guardians will have to hope he can get back to the form he showed in 2021, when he went 12-5 on the season with a 3.84 ERA.
Keep an eye on for any more updates regarding Civale's status. For now, Cleveland has odds set at +750 to win the AL Central and odds set at +10000 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
