The New York Giants didn't do much to reshape their roster during the first wave of free agent signings. This is a team in desperate need of playmakers as eyes turn toward the upcoming draft. Mel Kiper's latest 2022 NFL mock draft has New York grabbing two steals within the top 10 overall picks.
Giants Mock Draft
Kiper projects the Giants to nab offensive tackle Evan Neal at No. 5 before selecting edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux at No. 7. Addressing needs on both sides of the trenches could go a long way in improving under new head coach Brian Daboll. The Giants haven't finished over .500 since 2016.
Neal is in the running to be the No. 1 overall pick, which is why seeing him drop to No. 5 would be a bit shocking. The All-American lineman gave up just 5 sacks and 36 pressures across 40 games played at Alabama. His massive frame (6-foot-7, 337 pounds) allows him to play multiple positions, too.
Meanwhile, Kayvon Thibodeaux's stock has dropped a bit due to a few standout NFL combine performances. The Oregon product is still one of the most skilled pass rushers in this class, though. He racked up 49 tackles (12.0 for loss), 7.0 sacks and 2 forced fumbles in his senior season alone.
These picks would come at the perfect time for the Giants. Quarterback Daniel Jones has yet to stay healthy for an entire NFL season and New York posted a disappointing 34.0 sacks in 2021 (T-No. 22 in NFL). Neal's elite blocking techniques and Thibodeaux's pure power would certainly come in handy.
The 2022 NFL Draft is set to get started on Thursday, April 28.
